Fast cars, narrow serpentines, a lot of dust, screaming people, music, singing and barbecues. All these come together when it gets to the Rally Argentina. Over 20 years it has integrated itself deep into the cultural life of the people and is THE event to experience with friends and family.
How to get there:
You have two options: You arrive the day of the race early in the morning like 4 am and walk to the already closed racing circuit or you get there the night before and sleep in your car or tent.
Like this, as the area is still accessible, it allows you to park the car next to the street. The circuit itself is an open terrain in the mountains which is only marked with yellow and red tapes
which tell you whether it is ok to park and stand behind there to watch or not.
People normally arrive with half of their household: tent, grill, food, beer, refrigerator, a complete sound system, chairs, tables etc. etc. arrange themselves and don´t move until the sun goes
down... Watching fast cars and making barbecue...a man´s/woman´s dream comes true :)
While waiting for the start of the cars and to kill the anticipation every poor little thing coming down the circuit (crew members, photographers, models, ice cream sellers) are a welcomed
distraction and a victim of jokes and mockery.
The car race:
As the race begins cars keep coming down the winding, dirty road with incredible speed leaving big dusty clouds and cheering people behind.
All the cars pass twice. The fastes and the best cars go first then the slower cars... The funny part of it all starts when the smaller teams start and pass with around 50km/h often missing a
wheel or the windshield. Sometimes they even need the help of volunteers to go on.
The race finishes around 4 pm. Then everyone runs to their cars to go home using all the same street. This you can imagine is like an elephant going through an eye of a needle... for hours don´t
even think you can reach your car or get home quickly.
The perfect time to have the 2nd barbecue!!
